CHIP PETTIT – Head Coach

Chip Pettit enters his 11th season at the helm of the Bulldogs in 2011. Coach Pettit is a graduate (1992) of Crown Point High School, Valparaiso University (B.S.), and Indiana University (M.S.). After graduating from college, he returned to Crown Point and taught Social Studies at Taft Middle School. In addition, he coached football,  basketball, and baseball at Crown Point High School. Coach Pettit then left Crown Point to teach Social Studies and serve as the first Head Football Coach in the history of Wheeler High School. In Coach Pettit’s tenure at CPHS, the Bulldogs have set school-records for wins in a season (12) and logged back-to-back undefeated regular seasons (2005 & 2006).  The Bulldogs won the Duneland Conference Championship in three consecutive years (2005, 2006, 2007). In 2006, the Dogs also won their first Sectional Championship in 15 years. Coach Pettit was named the 5A Coach of the Year in 2002 & 2005. He served as the Region 1 Director for the Indiana Football Coaches Association in 2004. Coach Pettit was a member of the North All-Star coaching staff for the IFCA All-Star game in July of 2007. He is currently teaching US History and serving as the Dean of Students at Crown Point High School. Coach Pettit and his wife, Karin, reside in Crown Point with their son, Will (9) and daughter, Avery (7).


SEAN GRANGER – Defensive Coordinator

Sean Granger begins his 11th season as a coach for the Crown Point Bulldogs in 2011. In his career with the Dogs, Coach Granger has coached the linebackers and defensive backs. Coach Granger is a graduate of Andrean High School (1992) and Wabash College (1996). Sean works with his father (Joe) at Commercial Sweeping Corp. here in Crown Point. Prior to coming to the Dogs, Sean coached one season (2000) with Coach Pettit and Coach Croell at Wheeler High School in Valparaiso, Indiana. Coach Granger and his wife Melissa, reside is Crown Point with sons Reilly (8) and Carson (5).


MARK CROELL– Offensive Line

Mark Croell is entering his 11th year at Crown Point. Coach Croell served as Offensive Coordinator for six seasons and Co-Defensive Coordinator for one year. For the past three seasons, Mark has coached the offensive line. Coach Croell is a graduate of Portage High School (1992), Wabash College (B.S.), and Purdue University (B.S.). He teaches U.S. History at Col. John Wheeler Middle School. Mark is also the Athletic Director at Wheeler Middle School. Prior to coming to Crown Point, Coach Croell taught Social Studies at Union Township Middle School. Coach Croell and his wife, Patti, reside in Crown Point with their sons, Brett (7) and Drew (5).


KENNY BOYD – Wide Receivers

Coach Boyd is entering his 5th season with the Bulldogs. Kenny has also coached at Highland High School,Andrean High School, and Morton High School respectively. Prior to coming to CPHS, Coach Boyd taught 8th grade social studies at Scott Middle School in Hammond, Indiana. Coach Boyd is a graduate of Highland High School (1999) and Calumet College of St. Joseph (B.S.). Coach Boyd teaches U.S. and World History at CPHS. Kenny and his wife, Amanda, reside in Highland with their daughter Addison (3) and son Hunter (2).


DAVE EGOFSKE  – Tight Ends

Dave Egofske begins his 2nd season at CPHS.  Dave graduated from Rich South High School in Illinois (1976) where he starred in football and baseball. Dave was named the Rich South Athlete of the Year in 1976.  He went on to earn his degree from Elmhurst College (IL), where he was a four-year letterman in football. Coach ‘E’ then entered the college coaching ranks at Northeast Missouri State (1980-81) as the offensive line coach and Illinois Benedictine College (1984-1989) as the defensive coordinator. After nine years at the college level, Dave moved into the high school ranks, serving as the Head Coach at East Chicago Central (1990-1993), Crown Point (1994-2000), and the defensive coordinator at Michigan City (2008-09). Dave received Coach of the Year recognition in 1991, 1992, 1995, and 1997. Dave and his wife, Ruth, have been married 29 years. They have three daughters:  Anna (25), Kayla (23), and Leah (21).


DENNIS GUTOWSKI– Defensive Line

Dennis Gutowski enters his 2nd season as a coach for the Crown Point Bulldogs. Coach Gutowski is a graduate of Andrean High School (1969) and the University of Notre Dame (1973). Dennis is a Guidance Counselor at Thornwood High School in South Holland, Illinois. He earned all-state honors at Andrean High School as quarterback, defensive back and captain of the 59ers first undefeated, untied team in 1968. During his high school career, Dennis earned eight varsity letters in football, basketball, and track. He was a team captain and defensive back on the North All-Star football team that defeated the South for the first time in 1969. Dennis played for Hall-of Fame coach, Ara Parseghian, at the University of Notre Dame, playing in the 1970 & 1971 Cotton Bowls against the University of Texas, and the 1973 Orange Bowl against the University of Nebraska. Coach Gutowski has 26 years of coaching experience at the high school level, with 8 of those years serving as the head football coach at Thornwood. He and his wife, Laurie, have lived in Crown Point for the past 33 years. They have three children, Tim (36), who with his wife, Mary, resides in Crown Point with their son, Zackary (3), Jeff (33), who resides in Erie , PA, and Jamie (28), who resides in Madison, WI.


DANN ELLENWOOD – Running Backs

Dann Ellenwood enters his 4th year coaching for the Bulldogs. Coach Ellenwood is a graduate (1996) of Lake Central High School, Purdue University (B.S.), and Purdue University (M.S.). In high school, Dann was a 3 year letter winning quarterback for Indiana High School Hall of Fame coach Elmer Britton. He then went onto to play quarterback at Concordia University (River Forest, IL).  After graduating from college, he taught and coached at Wheeler and Portage High Schools. In addition, he coached football, basketball, softball, and baseball at Wheeler High School and football at Portage High School. He is currently teaching 6th grade social studies at Taft Middle School. Coach Ellenwood will be working with the tailbacks and H-Backs this season. Dann and his wife, Rachel, reside in Wheatfield with their son, Brodie (4).


JOSH GRAEGIN - Defensive Backs

Josh Graegin enters his 4th year coaching for the Bulldogs. For the past three seasons, Josh was an assistant coach at Colonel Wheeler Middle School.  Coach Graegin is a graduate of Lowell High School (1996) and Purdue University Calumet (B.A.) Josh also coaches wrestling at Taft Middle School.  He is currently teaching Psychology and World History and Crown Point High School. Josh and his wife, Krystin, reside in Cedar Lake with their son Dominic (5) and daughter Adyson (2).


NICK CIOCHINA - Linebackers

Nick Ciochina enters his 1st year coaching for the Bulldogs. Coach Ciochina is a graduate of Crown Point High School (2006).  Nick concluded his playing career at CPHS by participating in the North/South All-Star Game.  Nick went on to graduate from Butler University (2010).  After graduating from college, Nick taught at Clark Middle School and was the Head Football Coach at Grimmer Middle School.  He is currently teaching World History at Crown Point High School. Coach Ciochina will be working with the inside linebackers.  Nick resides in Crown Point.


MATT JANSEN - Quarterbacks

Matt Jansen enters his 1st year coaching for the Bulldogs. Coach Jansen is a 2006 graduate of Crown Point High School.  While playing at CPHS, Matt was a 4 year letter winner at quarterback.  Matt earned his degree from Purdue University (2011) while pitching for the Boilermakers. He was selected by the San Francisco Giants in the 2009 MLB Draft.  This season, Coach Jansen will be working with the quarterbacks.  Matt currently lives in Crown Point.


TOM GULBRANDSEN - Defensive Backs

Tom Gulbrandsen is excited to begin his 5th season as an Assistant Coach working with the defensive backs.  Coach Gulbrandsen is a graduate of Addison Trail High School (1975) in Addison, Illinois. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Illinois State University in Normal, Illinois. Tom has been a 14-year volunteer for the Bulldog football program. Tom is employed by View Outdoor Advertising in Merrillville, as a real estate representative. Coach Gulbrandsen resides in Crown Point, and is proud to have raised two CPHS graduates: Sara (1999) and Eric (2003).


KEN FLOREK - Assistant Defensive Backs

Ken Florek enters his first year coaching for the Bulldogs.  Coach Florek is a Graduate of Munster High School (2006) and Indiana University (B.S).  Prior to joining the Crown Point staff Ken coached defensive line and running backs at Bloomington High School North in 2009 and 2010.  Ken also served as an equipment manager and coach’s assistant for the tight ends at Indiana University in 2008.  Ken is a licensed physical education teacher and is currently working at CPHS as an RTI Assistant.  Coach Florek resides in Munster.
